St Matthias North Hill Plymouth

About Us

We are a low evangelical church which reaches out to the local population. Our congregation is drawn from local people and those who live in the surrounding area.

The people of St Matts are called to be a progressive, inclusive and creative urban community. We work together, encouraging every member ministry, in a Christ-centred life for the good of our church family and wider community. Our church is grounded in the local area, with a clear Gospel message and an increasingly diverse congregation. There is a thoughtful but positive approach and we exude confidence and happiness

The Church is in good heart; people are pleased to belong to a strong church family and feel that there is a life and reality in our fellowship. However, we have no illusions about the difficulty of outreach in an inner city area, where there is a transient population (students, homeless and refugees) and social deprivation.

We continue to work with our partners in the Deanery, developing our role in God’s work.

The University forms a very significant geographical part of the Parish and this provides opportunities to enhance the work of the Chaplaincy in new and different ways.
